I began this book after having finished the first in the series with a Bible study group. The first book (read the review here), focused on building your relationship with God by making time with Him and studying the Bible a priority. This book focuses on building your relationship with God by turning inward to look at past hurts that are crippling you.
As with the first book, this 9-lesson study is designed for groups to meet once a week, covering one lesson each meeting. The lessons begin with a story of a woman’s experience, then move into the core of what that lesson will teach, relating it back to the story and to your own life with application questions. I love that this series is designed so there is one book for both leaders and participants of the study group. Everyone has the leader material, which makes meetings more flexible, especially when a group leader may be absent from a meeting.
This study is full of affirmations of God’s love for you, and of your value. While it is looks at healing hurts, it focuses on major hurts – things that are gnawing at you, and directly affect your life today. It feels written specifically for someone living with some sort of crippling self-image, or the suffocating effects of a traumatic event. This is amazing for someone struggling with that, but for those who aren’t, the study could be a little difficult, or even repetitive.
Also as with the first book, the amount of things required for completing this study can be intimidating – lesson work, numerous scripture studies, verse memorization, attending meetings. This is awesome for someone who already has some daily time set aside to grow their faith, but for someone still struggling to dedicate time to God every day, it could be incredibly difficult. How specific groups approach this is flexible and can make it more tailored to the specific group. A group’s approach would probably have been figured out as they worked through book 1, so by the time they get to book 2 it should be manageable for everyone.
Overall, this is a good book, but not really for me. I’m sure it would be incredibly helpful and insightful for people struggling with past hurts. I’ll be continuing on to book 3 with a Bible study group, and when we are done with this series, I’ll probably see if there is anyone who might be interested in my copy and could use it more than I would.

It’s just as important to take care of an emotional or spiritual wound, as it is a physical wound.
