She Reads Truth/ He Reads Truth’s Attributes of God

Description
God; the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End; so infinite and all-encompassing. How can we even begin to understand Him?
The team at She Reads Truth and He Reads Truth designed this study for daily reading by pairing a short study with Biblical readings printed right in the book. Attributes of God looks to help you better understand your Heavenly Father by exploring some of God’s most well-known attributes and getting you into the Word daily, drawing you closer in your relationship with Him.

I want to start off by stating what this study is designed for at it’s core – to get you reading the Bible every day.
I love that this is designed for easy daily reading of both the study and the scripture references. One of my biggest peeves with devotionals and Bible studies is when I find myself constantly switching between the book and the Bible, looking up a plethora of 1-line verse references. This study did not have any of that! There were a few times when a verse was referenced without it being included, but most of the scripture used was written out at the end of each daily study.
I also liked that the studies were short, making it easy to commit to reading it daily and then actually sticking with it. If you split it up, reading the study at one time, and the scripture at another, it was a good length to fit into even the busiest of days.
I have some mixed feelings about the depth of this study. It is not designed for depth, again, it is designed for getting you reading the Bible daily. This means that the studies are short, and tend to be pretty surface level. There were a number of times when it seemed like one lesson basically repeated the points from the lesson before.
I realize that God’s attributes reflect one another, but they are also distinct and different. I feel like this study could have daily built upon itself, painting a fuller description of God, rather than starting over every day from square one with a different attribute, which left it feeling like it was reiterating things.
Also, having purchased both the She Reads Truth and the He Reads Truth editions of this book, I was a little disappointed in the differences. The She Reads Truth edition (described on their website as “designed with women in mind”) is big, like letter paper size big, and there is a lot of white space for journaling. The He Reads Truth edition (described on their website as “designed with men in mind”) is smaller, more book-sized, and still has journaling space, just not quite as much white space.
Part of why I bought both editions was to compare the two, because looking at the listings in their store, I couldn’t tell which I would prefer. When actually using them, the She Reads Truth design was a little overwhelming and loud, actually distracting me from the study, while the He Reads Truth edition was easier to focus on. I know that this is completely personal preference, but I wanted to include mention of it in this review because of the heavy emphasis they place on the design of each of their studies. They even include a “Design on Purpose” page explaining how the book design choices were intended to reflect the topic.
Overall, I would recommend this study – but with some stipulation. This study is intended to get you reading the Bible. Every. Single. Day. And in that, it is definitely set up for you to succeed. If you are looking for something deeper, you might want to skip this study all together and find something you can really sink your teeth into, or you could do multiple studies a day, or even use it in conjunction with another study – this one to ensure that you are reading the Bible daily, and the other to use when you have more time to go deeper.
I will keep this book, not for looking to learn more about God’s Attributes on a second read, but to keep on hand if I find myself struggling to reestablish a habit of reading Scripture every day (something that I frequently struggle with). I also plan to go forward with some of their other studies focusing on specific books of the Bible, using the He Reads Truth editions.
Quote
Whatever we think of when we think about God is, at the very least, incomplete. He is infinite, but our imaginations are limited. He is unfathomable, so our thoughts cannot plumb the depths. He is the Creator of everything, yet we are constrained by metaphors that come from the creaded world.
