February was pretty productive – which is a little surprising to me looking back, because there were definitely a few ‘lost weeks’ where I have no idea what happened.
Old Goals
In February, I really wanted to focus more on my reading, my goals were:
- have 5AM work nights every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (I’m hoping that this will give me enough nights to really be productive, but not too many that I unintentionally sabotage myself with headaches)
- figure out The StoryGraph, and get reviews up there and on Goodreads
- READ!!!
Read the January Recap to see how I got to those goals, read on with this post to see how successful I was with those goals, or skip down to New Goals to see my goals for March.
Month Reap
Worknights – I feel like this is something that I’m constantly tweaking and shifting, because I haven’t quite found a happy rhythm yet. With two kids at home, much of the work that I get done happens after they are in bed, so for me, nighttime is worktime. I was able to stick to the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday work night schedule almost every week in February, and it worked pretty well for me. As long as I focus on getting enough sleep on my off nights, I have a decent chance of not throwing myself down a headache spiral.
I’m thinking I should bump the schedule of worknights to: just Monday and Tuesday until 5AM; or Monday until 5, Tuesday until 3, and Wednesday until I’ve lost focus. This will help me have a bit more wiggle room in case I don’t get to bed at a reasonable hour on the other nights. Fat lot of good it does me if I get a ton of work done one week, only to give myself a headache that I can’t get rid of and be out of worknight the next week.
REVIEWS – no way around it, I totally failed here. I was able to get a few more book reviews written, but didn’t get any migrated over to Goodreads or StoryGraph. I didn’t even get a StoryGraph account started.
READING – this went about as well as I could have hoped, though I would have liked to have gotten more done. I was able to fully read one book – Michael J. Sullivan’s Age of Myth (review coming next week). I read most of it during two back-to-back work nights, but then wasn’t able to get back to start the next book in the series for a while. I’m thinking if I dedicate one work night a week ONLY to writing/ reading, I’ll be more productive with both.
New Goals
Looking forward to March, I’m aiming for the following goals:
- Monday and Tuesday 5AM work nights (Tuesday night dedicated ONLY to writing/ reading).
- Get book reviews on StoryGraph and Goodreads
- Read Age of Swords, and Age of War (books #2 and #3 of Michael J. Sullivan’s The Legends of the First Empire series)
I really want to finish reading this series, so I’ going to put off writing again this month to focus on reading. If I can only get one book read again, I’m probably going to have to adjust that in order to keep moving forward with my writing also.
I really don’t want to have to set the series aside for too long between books – not because I’ll forget things, but because I’m enjoying it and want to read it all now! Is there a series that you’ve wanted to just sit down and read the entirety of before doing anything else? If so, please comment below, I’d love to check it out!
