Somehow or another you found this site, thanks for taking the time to check it out! Hopefully it’s pretty obvious that I’m a writer, and if you want to know what I’m writing (aside from this blog), I’ll explain that here.
I am currently working on the first novel of an epic fantasy trilogy that I’m sure will eventually spider web out into more (even if only in my brain). It started as a pretty basic adventure, but as I continue to write and change my Story Spine outline (see this post for a bit on my outlining), it has definitely grown into itself more. Here is my stab at a book description based on the current completed bit and working Story Spine.
Rumors of impending attack come to a physically defenseless nation, while an unknown Voice hints at other coming changes.
Though responsible for more desk work than he would prefer, Sir Kentigern leads a pleasant, comfortable life. He and his wife, Lady Lilias, are Heads of State in a peaceful Region where all disputes are solved through a strategy game, and physical violence is a rarity. But when one neighboring Region unexpectedly becomes a Kingdom with a fledgling army, they must work toward sweeping changes in their own Region, or quietly accept defeat.
I had really wanted to finish writing the first draft in one year, and despite making considerable progress, I didn’t hit that goal. The story idea originated in late May 2019; now, in June 2020, I’ve completed a quarter of the first draft. I’m not a fast drafter, and my first draft is pretty organized and thorough, so it’s a solid quarter.
I knew that the one year goal was ambitious for me, and I’m OK with not having met that goal – though I am a little disappointed. One of the main reasons I set the May 2020 goal was because I knew I was going to start this blog in June 2020, and the time needed to maintain it would significantly cut into my writing time. But, as the blog launch approached, and the story was so far from done, I had to either push back the blog or put writing the story on hold. Instead of inevitably postponing the blog forever, I chose to set the story aside for a bit to focus on prepping for the blog launch.
Though my writing time is now peppered with work for this blog, I am back to working on the story. I am also working on finding where to whittle more writing time out of my current daily rhythm to increase my writing time – I feel like this will always be a challenge for me.
If you are working on a project, writing or otherwise, let me know if you have had to postpone it for something – especially if it was something to help better that project!
